Traveling to Rio de Janeiro

July 6, 2011  |  Events

Jeanne will be away and all group classes and private sessions will resume Friday August 12.

As a recipient of a 2011 Fund for Teachers summer grant fellowship, Jeanne will be traveling to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on research project to explore athletic culture and coaching strategies. The primary goal of her fellowship is to investigate factors that motivate females to participate in physical activity and to complete as athletes in the context of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Jeanne will be training at top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies, including Gordo Jiu-Jitsu and with her affiliated Nova Uniao team. She will also be visiting Rocinha Crossfit for what looks to be a unique workout and an eye-opening view of the infamous favela. She aims to bring back new perspectives on teaching females in the sports and physical activity setting and hopes to be inspired to compete more as an athlete!

Jeanne wishes you a happy, healthy, and active summer!
